Victor Cruz, the star receiver for the NY Giants, has a book out telling much of his life story. The title of the book is “Out of the Blue.” He says that he did not just come “out of the blue” to become a star athlete with the Super Bowl NY Giants. In fact, he “failed” the SAT test five times before finally getting a good enough score on the sixth try to gain entry to college. At the University of Massachusetts he flunked out twice, before finally succeeding and graduating with a degree. Every step of his life’s journey – from his birth as the son of a black and an Hispanic in the inner city – has been a struggle. What does the Code say about this? The Code says, “I will give my best effort…” Part of giving our best effort is not being willing to accept failure, but to continue to work for the goals we set for ourselves. If you had failed at something five times, would you keep on trying? If you flunked out of college twice, would you go back a third time – and end up with a 3.2 average?
