The Presidential election provides an opportunity to test our character – whether you were for the winner or the loser. If you were with the “winner” here are some questions for you to think about and respond to: Can you reach out to those on the losing side, expressing your pleasure with the result but more importantly, expressing your understanding with the sadness they are experiencing? Can you do that sincerely? Can you see the other person as a person – as one who, like you, was hoping to win, but who has suffered defeat? For those who were on “the losing side:” can you do the same – can you look those who were on the winning side in the eye, and tell them that while you are sad, you know how happy they are? Can you express your hope that things will progress as they expect they will? The difficult thing with all of this is the challenge of seeing in the other not an enemy, or an opponent, but as a human being, as a teammate – who probably has all of the same hopes and aspirations that you do for our country. The Code says, “I will respect the dignity of every human being…” and “…I will be a positive influence in my community…” How can you make these words more than words?
