Tyler Higby, a member of the Michigan State football team, is from Houston. So, when the team had a bye week, he said he was going down to help with the recovery. To his surprise he was joined by nine of his teammates who wanted to help him help others. They joined with others who were planning to go, worked for two days, and returned. That Higby ended up working at the house of his high school team’s rival coach only made the story more interesting. It’s always easier to do nothing than to do something, so it’s rewarding to see people respond spontaneously to a need. How does this story reflect the Code? It’s an example of what it means to be a part of a team that cares about each other, and it’s an example of “giving our time” for the betterment of others. What do you learn most from this story?
