Johnny Football and The Code

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has been accused of signing autographs for money, a violation of NCAA rules.  We do not know the truth of the story, and hope that he has not violated the rules.  It’s also true that many people consider the NCAA’s rules to be hypocritical, since, for example, it sells his jersey and will make a lot of money off of his “amateur” status.  The question is do we follow all of the rules or only some of the rules?  We have the rules of our sport, and we also have the rules of our coach.  If the coach wants the team in bed by 11 pm, is it okay to stay up until 11:15?  There are countless examples of ways that we can “cut corners” and try to get by.  The Code says “I will compete within the spirit and the letter of the rules of my sport.”  It is said that those who will cheat in small ways will eventually cheat in big ways.  What are some rules that you are tempted to break?  What can you do to resist that temptation?
