Last week we talked about setting goals at the beginning of the season. We assume that all athletes set individual goals for themselves in terms of skill development, and so we encouraged everyone to consider goals they could set to make the team better, and to improve the relationships on the team – both tenets of the Code. Has your team chosen a service project? The Code says that we will be a “positive role model” off the field, and that I will “give of my time, skills and money as I am able for the betterment of my community.” What goals have you set for yourself? Doing a team service project makes a statement about the values of the team, improves the situation in which the project takes place, and helps build team spirit. It’s a win-win-win. How can you demonstrate leadership in this way?
