Cadet Mellaci, Navy Jr. ROTC, and the Code

Recently, a national competition of over 1,000,000 high school Jr. ROTC cadets, representing all four services, ended up with 500 young people coming for the finals in Washington, D. C.  The Navy team won the competition, but what was most noticeable was the performance of Cadet Logan Mellaci, who single-handedly answered enough questions to secure the win (obvious because after ringing the buzzer he answered questions without consulting his team).  Who is this brilliant young man?  It turns out that he and his mother have been severely challenged in keeping housing, having food on the table, and a means of transportation.  Despite these challenges, Cadet Logan has persisted, taking public transportation for an hour and a half to and from school, and remaining a part of the team.  The Code says “I will develop my skills to the best of my ability.”  Doing one’s best always includes overcoming adversity, but rarely do we see such admirable examples as in the case of Cadet Mellaci.  What are the adversities you face in doing your best?  What is the greatest adversity your team faces?
