Cameron Lyle throws the shot put on the track and field team at the University of New Hampshire. Or he will until this Wednesday – when he goes in to give some of his bone marrow to save the life of an unknown person. Cameron signed up for the bone marrow registry two years ago not expecting ever to be called upon for a donation. But, when called and offered the opportunity to save another person’s life, he did not hesitate. As a senior it meant the end of his career, since he will not be allowed to do anything strenuous for some time after the donation. The Code says, “I display caring and honorable behavior off the field…” It’s hard to imagine any behavior more caring or more honorable. Have you considered joining the bone marrow registry? Do you donate blood? What are the ways in which you can give the gift of life?
