Congratulations to Lebron James for a Herculean effort in the finals, and to all the members of the Heat for their championship performance. But why did the Heat win? Was it just because of Lebron James? It’s easy to say “yes,” and it is true they won because of him – but not just because of him. The Heat won because Lebron had other members of the team who made the victory possible. In the final game, for example, Mike Miller made seven three point shots – that’s 21 points in a game decided by 16. What if he had missed those, or even five of them? The Heat won because of James, but also because of Mike Miller, Wade, Bosh and all those who contributed to the win. The Code says, “I will put team goals ahead of personal goals.” The NBA always glorifies individuals, but it is always teams that win team sports.
