Sadie Frame of First Presbyterian Day School, and Wesley Simpson of Union Grove High School were named as the recipients of the four-year scholarship of $1000 per year by legendary Coach Vince Dooley on May 12, 2018 at a ceremony held at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. More than 550 student-athletes and guests attended the event which featured inspirational messages from Coach Dooley, Executive Director of the Georgia High School Association Dr. Robin Hines, and ABW Founder/President Fred Northup. All enjoyed a breakfast meal, compliments of The Chick-fil-A Foundation. The Hudgens Family Foundation was once again the Presenting Sponsor for the event.
Ms. Frame distinguished herself as a four-sport athlete, including leading her team to the school’s first-ever Softball State Championship, and was a first place champion two years in a row in the State 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles. In school, she carries a 4.0 GPA with AP classes, was Senior Class Treasurer, was the 2017 Wendy’s High School Heisman winner, and was an inaugural member of the Student Athletic Board, among other activities. In the community, she has participated on mission trips to orphanages in Mexico, was the School Leader for the Tim Tebow “Night to Shine” Foundation, and was the Grade Leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, among other pursuits. Sadie was crowned the 2017 International Cherry Blossom Festival Queen based upon poise, intelligence, involvement in the community, and extracurricular school activities.
Mr. Simpson was the basketball team Captain for three years, leaving Union Grove as the school’s all-time leading scorer and all-time leader of assists. He will continue his basketball career at Georgia College and State University. Wesley maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking AP and Honors classes. On campus, he is on the Yearbook Staff, is a member of the Athletic Director’s Athlete Leadership Council, and was voted best all-around for his senior year. In the community, he volunteers at the food pantry, in a nursing home, and for Special Olympics, all while tutoring underclassmen in math on weekends.
The two scholarship recipients will also each receive $500 to donate to the charitable organization of their choice.
